Beatshop Labs had humble beginnings as a music workshop sponsored by Berklee College of Music and Propellerheads Software, makers of Reason. Our first Beat Lab was created at the Community Music Center of Boston in 2010, where we gave students of all ages access to professional instruction on the latest music technology, including students from Perkins School for the Blind. We have since taught music production and beat making to students in over twenty schools around the world, including our hometown of San Francisco at SAE/Ex'pression College, San Francisco School of the Arts, and in India as a cultural ambassador with the US State Department. Our apps are inspired by our experience and passion for teaching music to youth.
We teach our classes with an entertaining curriculum style using technology to engage our students, and then we transfer those principles to our design/development process for music software and games. Prototyping, developing and implementing software and games in the classroom helps students create, learn and explore in fun, fast paced environments. Using modern music production techniques and concepts, we make learning about music as fun as playing a game for all ages and demographics - we make music happen by turning listeners into (beat) makers.
